Steamed Fish with Ginger Scallion
Quick and flavorful Chinese steamed fish with ginger and green onions—tender, aromatic, and ready in just 15 minutes!
Ingredients

1 golden pompano fish (or fish of your choice)

3 stalks green onion
-
1 knob ginger
-
1 red chili
-
3 tbsp soy sauce
-
3 tbsp water
-
1/4 tsp sugar
-
Cooking oil (for finishing)
Instructions
- Prep aromatics:

Chop 1 green onion stalk roughly.

Slice the other 2 stalks on a 1.5″ bias.

Julienne the ginger.
-
Slice the red chili on a bias.
- Assemble fish for steaming:
-
On a plate, layer green onion stalks sliced on a 1.5” bias and a few matchsticks of ginger.

Place the fish on top.
-
Add another layer of green onion and ginger over the fish.
- Steam the fish:

Bring a wok or large pot of water to a boil.

Place the plate on a steaming rack above the boiling water.

Cover and steam on high heat for 15 minutes.
- Prepare the sauce:
-
In a small pan, combine soy sauce, water, and sugar.

Heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Finish the dish:
-
In another pan, heat some cooking oil until hot.

Pour the soy sauce mixture over the steamed fish.

Carefully pour the hot oil over the fish to release the aroma of the aromatics.
- Garnish and serve:

Top with sliced red chili and remaining green onions.

Serve immediately.
